Cast of Water

And For a Moment the Stone Holds Still

Archive of Sunsets

The works in Ulrike Königshofer’s “Imprints of Time” exhibition capture moments in a constantly changing world, such as waves on a body of water or the rays of the sun. They are moments that come and go, that are difficult to grasp, but which inscribe themselves into the material, leaving an imprint in the process.

Like a recorded piece of the world, Königshofer’s works explore forms of depiction that are not subject to any spatial perspectives. What remains are traces that guide viewers, only first creating an imaginary connection with the subject in their conceptions. The work is like a footnote referring to something else, which is itself not there.

Cast of Water
A lake’s wavering surface is digitally recorded and mechanically reproduced in the exhibition space.

And For a Moment the Stone Holds Still
Little weather-beaten stones taken from the Thames’ riverbed are cast in concrete and inconspicuously released into urban
space as sculptures.

Graphs
Light-sensitive paper inside a pinhole camera is exposed for one day. A thin line drawn by the sun remains.

Archive of Sunsets
A sunset’s light falls on a sheet of white paper and is captured on slide film.
